    Apikri is a voice of fair trade in Indonesia. It's a unique body which combines community and marketing development with a co-operative set-up as the legal basis to empower micro and small handicraft producers.

    In 1987, Apikri was founded by 19 handicraft micro-producers and 6 NGO's (non-government organization) activists who assisted them. Apikri stands for The Association of Indonesian People’s Handicraft Marketing.


    As at 2008, Apikri have improved the livelihoods of 4700 micro producers, their families and the peoples living in their villages / kampongs. 296 micro producers were recipients of capacity building programs and 80 of them received help in export facilitation.


    Apikri is now owned by 61 micro handicraft family enterprises.   Most of them live in villages and slum areas - Spread out in Yogyakarta Special Province and several cities in Central Java Province, i.e. Klaten, Wonogiri,Magelang and Pekalongan in Indonesia.
